We checked out the whimsical “Fulton’s Exhibit” in Hollywood last weekend. The show is a collection of giant food sculptures — mostly sweets — by the artist Fulton Boggs.
Large-than-life cookies, popsicles, chocolates, snacks and even a huge burrito and human-size gingerbread man are on display. The highlight for us was the Spider-Man lollipop, famously canonized in the 2018 film “Spider-man Into the Spider-Verse.”
Many of the fabricated food sculptures have the feel of leftover movie-set props. Scale is the gimmick. And a fun one, especially for kids. The show is an Instagrammer’s or TikToker’s dream.
“Fulton’s Exhibit” is a playfully droll show that runs a fine line between “art” and “spectacle,” a fitting novelty entry for our times and L.A.’s indie-influencer art world as we wind down 2022.
