By now you may have heard of and seen the Los Angeles power-pop indie-punk band the Linda Linda’s. A YouTube video of their recent performance at the L.A. Public Library got tons of attention the past week. The music industry noticed, and the band was immediately scooped up by Epitaph, the legendary punk label.
Their song “Racist, Sexist Boy” in particular got a lot of attention. It’s a cathartic timely tune that’s super relevant given the COVID pandemic and recent rise of anti-Asian hate crime in the United States. The tune and its backstory have resonated with viewers and listeners across the Interwebs. While it didn’t break the Internet, it definitely dinged it. The band also does a great cover of Bikini Kill’s riot-grrrl classic “Rebel Girl.”
