It’s back! And we are so very happy to see it! Desert X has returned. What’s Desert X? It’s the biennial contemporary art exhibition that dots the desert landscape and communities of the Coachella Valley with massive site-specific installation artworks. The art event, now in its third running, is centered around the famous resort city of Palm Springs, California. Since its inaugural exhibition in 2017, Desert X has quickly solidified its place on the contemporary art-world map. We visited the first Desert X. One of the highlights of that year was Doug Aitken’s unforgettable mirrored house titled “Mirage, which we covered here. If ever there was an exhibition suited for the COVID Era’s social distancing rituals, Desert X is it, since most of the artwork is usually on view and experienced outdoors in vast wide-open spaces across the sprawling Coachella Valley. We can’t wait to go. Desert X runs from March 12 through May 16, 2021.
