ARCHI-TORTURE: SOMEBODY’S BUILDING A MEMORIAL TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC

An architecture firm in Montevideo, Uruguay is building the worlds first memorial to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The firm is GomezPlatero. Their vision is for a memorial located on the waterfront of a major urban area that serves as both a monument and a large pubic space. Rendering of the structure show a massive round disk built on a bed of exposed rocks along a shoreline. In the center of the disc is hold. Visitor access to the disc would be via series of connected walkways from the mainland. The project is being called the “World Memorial to the Pandemic.” It’s an interesting, brilliant concept that certainly warrants consideration, but one can’t help but ask the question, Is this too soon?
