Mural artist Jules Muck’s (a.k.a., Muckrock) painting on the exterior of The Gym Venice (which is technically in the Venice-adjacent Los Angeles neighborhood of Mar Vista) is an homage to an iconic American black-and-white photo know as “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper.” The photo was taken by Charles C. Ebbets in 1932 during the construction Rockefeller Center, better know perhaps simply as “30 Rock.” The painting, like the original photo, shows construction workers eating lunch while sitting precariously on a steel girder approximately 840 feet above ground.
