Fresh Street Art at the Deitch Wall … New York City

We just caught sight of the new street-art mural at the Deitch Wall, at the corner of Houston Street and the Bowery, in downtown Manhattan, New York City. “Marty” seems to be the work of a group of artists who were putting the finishing touches on the artwork as we arrived. Among the artists there was Brooklyn-based, Japanese street-art superstar Lady Aiko (also of FAILE) at work on a part of the painting. The mural appears to be a birthday tribute to photographer Martha Cooper, who in 1984 published her seminal book of photography titled “Subway Art.” The book documented the myriad graffiti art that covered many NYC trains in the 1980′s. Cooper was present at the mural site today and can be seen at center in the artists group photo below.
