Pix of a performance art group Team Zatara on stage in the Amphitheatre (a temporary stage setting created with empty art crates) at the Art Los Angeles Contemporary art fair held this past weekend at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

The group used costumes covered with Q-codes and invited the audience to participate interactively by photographing the codes with mobile devices.

It’s an interesting concept full of potential. The performance itself was entertaining and intriguing, but many in the audience appeared unsure on how to¬† participate and what the pay-off was. The direction and instructions were muddled. This could have been more effectively executed, IMHO. In spite of the confusion, the show was visually arresting and fun.

Perhaps a one-sheet explaining to the audience what to do would have helped.
